1957-58 Charlie O'Malley (No 5)

Charles Vincent O'Malley (1896 - 1968) was born in Limerick to Patrick and Helena O'Malley of the Round House, High St. The youngest of 8 children, he was educated at the Jesuit Crescent College in Limerick and studied dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, qualifying as a dental surgeon in 1918. He set up practice in his native Limerick, where he spent his entire career. He married Dr Sarah (Judy) Walsh, an ophthalmologist, and they had two children, Grace O'Malley Cantillon (the author of The Round House O'Malleys) and Charles O'Malley, who succeeded his father in dental practice. Charlie and Judy became very interested in archaeology and were leading members of the Thomond Archaeological and Historical Society for many years. Charlie was President of the Irish Dental Association in 1952 and was elected Chieftain No 5 of the O'Malley Clan in 1957. His brother Paddy was Chieftain No 3.
