1983-84 Michael O'Malley (No 31)

Pipe Major Michael O'Malley (? - 1985) was born in Ballintubber, Claremorris, Co Mayo. He was educated at Ballintubber National School and St Gerard's College in Castlebar. He served as a seaman during World War II and has lived in London since then. Three times All-Ireland war pipe winner, he has performed on the pipes many times at war commemoration ceremonies and has had the honour of playing before His Holiness the Pope in St. Peter's, Rome. His splendid uniform and spirited playing was a feature of many O'Malley Clan Rallies over the years. He was elected Chieftain No 31 of the O'Malley Clan in 1983 and held his Gathering in 1984 at Burrishoole Abbey and Hotel Westport.
