1998-99 Maurice O'Malley (No 46)

Maurice O'Malley was born in 1953, the year the O'Malley Clan Association was founded, the eldest son of Paddy (Pa) O'Malley from Rosbeg, Westport, a co-founder of the O'Malley Clan Association and its first joint secretary.  His mother was Kay Fitzmaurice from Roscommon. He was educated at St. Colmcille's National School, Westport Quay and St. Nathy's College, Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon. He joined Allied Irish Banks (AIB) in 1972 and was posted initially to Eyre Square in Galway City. He served in several locations in Galway and Mayo before settling in Castlebar where he was a senior manager, up to his retirement. He and his wife Delia have two sons and a daughter. Maurice has been an active member of the community over the years, being involved in parent associations, scouts, sporting and business organisations. He has a great interest in Gaelic football and soccer. Other interests include travel and he has visited many countries. He enjoys nothing better than a game of bridge and has represented his club in competitions.

Maurice was Treasurer of the O'Malley Clan Association from 1984 to 2003 and Chair of the Local Committee from 2003 to 2022. He was elected Chieftain No 47 of the O'Malley Clan in 1998 and held his rally in Castlebar, with functions in Daly's Hotel and the Welcome Inn, with Mass in Ballintubber Abbey. He served as Guardian Chieftain from 2009 to 2015,
