1989-90 Mick O'Malley (No 37)

Michael Brendan (Mick) O'Malley (1942 - 2021), son of John Joe O'Malley, Castlebar, and Bridie O'Malley, Balla, Claremorris was born and educated in Castlebar at Belcarra National School and St Gerald's College. He founded Michael O Malley Tarmacadam Contractors in 1978 and the company has worked for county councils, road builders and homeowners all over the west of Ireland. He was a keen golfer and football supporter. He and his wife Nora had five daughters and were regular attenders of O'Malley Clan rallies for many years. Michael was elected the 37th Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan in 1989. He held his own Gathering in Castlebar the following year at the Pontoon Bridge Hotel, the Welcome Inn and Ballintubber Abbey.
