1991-92 Peter McGee (No 39)

Peter McGee (1943 - 2022) of Newport was the son of Charles McGee of Newport and Kathleen O'Malley of Inishcuttle, Clew Bay. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from City and Guilds and spent twenty five years with the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). Peter was in the happy position of being able to retire at forty six to engage in wildfowling, boating, fishing, and gun repairs. A notable sportsman, he played international handball and racquetball for Ireland for many years and held eighteen senior All-Ireland medals. He and his wife Maureen had two sons, Colum and Darragh. Peter was a valued member of the O'Malley Clan Committee for many years and was elected the 39th Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan in 1991. He held his rally in Newport, Burrishoole Abbey and Breaffy House Hotel.
