1977-1978 Martin O'Malley (No 25)

Martin O'Malley 1942 - ? was born in Srah, Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, the son of Thomas O'Malley and his wife Julia Joyce, also of Srah. He was educated at Srah National School, CBS Ballinrobe and St Mary's Diocesan College, Galway. He married Margaret Lally of Derrindaffderg, Killawalla, near Westport, Co Mayo and they had four children: Darragh, Maolra, Doireann and Tomás.
Martin emigrated to London in 1983 and worked as a pub manager for some years and later in the construction business. He returned to Ireland and became manager of teh Old Head Hotel, near Louisburgh, Co Mayo.
A very keen sportsman, he played Gaelic football for his school and for his home club of Tourmakeady. He also represented Ballinrobe and Westport in rugby. His other big interest was in music, excelling in singing and playing banjo and guitar.
He was elected the 25th Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan in 1977 and held his rally in 1978 at the Old Head Hotel.
