1974-75 Richard O'Malley (No 22)
Richard Kilroy O'Malley (1911 - 1999), known as Dick, was born in Portland, Oregon, USA, the son of Malcolm George O'Malley of Bridgeton, Missouri and Cora Mae Wooton of Laporte, Indiana, who were both in the newspaper business. the family moved to Butte when he was young. He was educated at the University of Montana, He began his own journalistic career in Missoula, Montana, and went on to become an Associated Press war correspondent, roaming the Pacific to the Philippines and onto the decks of the battleship Missouri at the Japanese surrender in 1945. After the war he became Director of AP operations for Central and Eastern Europe, based in Germany and wrote his memoir, Mile High Mile Deep. He married Victoria Cooney in 1935 and they had two daughters. He retired to Ireland in 1973 but later returned to the United States to make his home in Sun City, Arizona. He was elected Chieftain No 22 of the O'Malley Clan in 1974.
