2018-19 Brendan O'Malley (No 64)

Brendan O'Malley was born in Limerick in 1952 to George O'Malley (Chieftain No 15) and Ann MacDermot, the eldest of their three children. He was educated at Monaleen National School, Glenstal Abbey School and University College Cork, where he studied Electrical Engineering. After a year in London with the British Post Office, he worked in a number of manufacturing roles in Shannon, before being invited to set up the National Microelectronics Applications Centre at NIHE Limerick. He later moved to Digital, a US computer company, in Clonmel and then in the Boston area of the USA. When Digital closed its Irish operations, he joined US company Snap-on as European General Manager of their automotive equipment business, based first in Cork and then in the UK. Returning to Limerick in 2004, he worked as Director of Procurement for Dairygold Co-Op. After Dairygold's restructuring, he set up a consulting business and later joined Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre, based in the University of Limerick, as General Manager, from where he retired in 2019. 

He is married to Mary Whelan, also from Limerick , and they have two children, Eoin and Kevin.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Paddy (No 3) and his father George (No 15), he was elected Chieftain No 64 of the O'Malley Clan in 2018 and held his Gathering in Limerick in 2019. He has worked with others to develop the Clan's on-line presence. Brendan  was elected Guardian Chieftain in 2025.
