1986-87 Anthony O'Malley (No 34)

Anthony & Jane

Anthony Patrick O'Malley (1899-1997) of Doughmackeon, Louisburgh, Co Mayo was the son of Patrick Anthony O'Malley and Mary Gibbons, both of Doughmackeon. Educated in Accony, Louisburgh, Anthony was a farmer and local historian. His wife was Jane Burke from Devlin, near Claremorris, Co Mayo and they had six children, including two future Chieftains of the O'Malley Clan - Fr. Pat (No 52) and Sr Brigid (No 60). Anthony had a lifelong interest in folklore, history and current affairs; his graphic descriptive powers combined with a retentive memory fascinated the many visitors who made their way to his hospitable home in Louisburgh. He was elected Chieftain No 34 of the O'Malley Clan in 1986 and held his rally in Westport and Louisburgh.
