1967 68 George O'Malley (No 15)

Brendan George O'Malley, (1926 - 1995), known as George, was born in Limerick, the son of Paddy O'Malley (Chieftain No 3) and Kitty Bonass. He was educated at Glenstal Abbey and University College Dublin before being called to the Bar in 1951. He joined the family wine and spirit business, P. O'Malley & Co, Round House Limerick in 1952 and took over as Managing Director on his father's death three years later. He married Ann MacDermot from Roscommon in 1952 and had three children - Brendan (Chieftain No 64), Conor and Siobhan. In later years he sold the business and became the Director of the Wine and Spirit Association, representing the trade to Government and internationally. He founded and ran the Wine Promotion Board and ran advanced classes for wine professionals. He brought the Round House, original home of his grandfather, back to its roots as a public house. In 1967, he was elected Chieftain No 15 of the O'Malley Clan, arriving to Carrigahowley for the event by sea. He held his own Gathering in 1968 in the Great Southern Hotel, Mulranny.
