Catherine Mary (Kitty) O'Malley was born in Limerick, the daughter of Denis O'Malley of Soloheadbeg, Co Tipperary and Margaret Duggan of Cappamore, Co Limerick. She was educated at Laurel Hill Convent, Limerick and University College Dublin where she studied architecture. After some years working in Limerick in private practice and in Limerick Corporation, she moved to Copenhagen, Denmark where she joined the office of of Selchan Bornebush and Brunel. She later moved to Westport where she joined the planning section of Mayo County Council and worked there until her retirement. In Westport, she met and married Wayne Harlow, an American from the mid-west, an artist and writer. Her main interests are the environment and its protection, the Arts generally, travelling, reading, history, archaeology and walking her dog. She was elected the 43rd Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan in 1995 and held her rally in 1996 in Louisburgh, Inishturk and Delphi Lodge, Leenane.
