Don O'Malley B.E., C.Eng. was born in Limerick in 1939. His father, Paddy, was born in Madaboy, Marroe, and his mother Bridie, was a member of the Lee family in Newport, County Tipperary
Don was educated at the Crescent College in Limerick and studied Electrical Engineering at University College Cork before doing a post-grad study in the UK. On returning to Ireland, he worked with a consulting engineer practice in Dublin before starting his own business of Don O'Malley and Partners Consulting Engineers Building Services in 1967 in Limerick.
He married Elaine Tracy in 1965, and they have five daughters and twenty grandchildren!
Don O'Malley and Partners have grown over the years and were fortunate to have a client portfolio that included the Department of Education, the Office of Public Works, local authorities, the University of Limerick, Shannon Development, etc. Don's practice was also appointed to some iconic developments, such as the University Concert Hall, Limerick, Thomond Park, and the Clarion Hotel, Limerick's tallest building.
Don has also been involved with several societies and sporting activities in Limerick, such as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Limerick Civic Trust, and the President of Rotary. He is the past President of Old Crescent Rugby Football Club. On the golfing scene, Don has served as Captain, President, and is presently a trustee of Limerick Golf Club.
He attended his first Clan rally with his father in 1954 in the Warwick Hotel in Galway. He was elected the 45th Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan in 1997 and held his Gathering at the University of Limerick in 1998. His family appreciates the importance of the Clan and have been attending rallies over the years whenever possible.
